Alternative fuels are becoming increasingly more necessary as the world faces an ever diminishing level of Petroleum reserves. The race is on to provide cost effective solutions to replace Petroleum. Created over 100 years ago, the diesel engine is perfectly capable of picking up some of the slack.
The internal combustion engine revolutionized travel and changed the way Americans interacted with the world. Urban sprawl, suburbs, and lower housing costs all emerged partially due to the low cost of transportation and energy made possible by this new invention.
The low cost of fuel made it possible for people to cover large distances in relatively short periods of time. Unfortunately, in today’s world, the cost of fuel is going up.
With Petrol Diesel hovering around $4.00 a gallon and global warming becoming a very real threat, Bio based fuels have become more attractive and are finally achieving recognition for their ability to partially offset America’s dependence on foreign oil.
Brief History of biodiesel
Rudolph Diesel created an engine over 100 years ago with the specific intention of allowing it to run on fuels readily available to the average consumer.

Unfortunately, bio-fuel was far more expensive to manufacture than Petrol-fuel. Bio based fuels (for his invention) never really entered the mainstream automotive world as the relative cost and availability of Petrol based fuels made their Bio cousins uneconomical.
The diesel engines then in use were perfectly capable of running Petrol based fuel so Bio based diesel fuels have been limited to extremely low profiles in the 20th century.
